Lawmakers Set To Amend Civil Aviation Act
As part of efforts to reposition the Nigerian Civil Aviation industry for better efficiency, the House of Representatives has taken steps to amend some sections of the aviation act.
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Nnolim Nnaji who disclosed this to aviation correspondents on Monday, assured that the House was committed to ensuring that the Nigeria’s aviation industry remains virile, safe and reliable.
He said that the areas of focus for amendment are those bothering on the operations of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Nigerian Metrological Agency (NiMet), as well as the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT).
According to the lawmaker, members of the Green Chambers of the National Assembly are very much determined in ensuring that the Nigeria’s aviation industry operates at the highest standards of effectiveness.
To this effect, Nnaji hinted that a three-day public hearing on the areas of amendment on the aviation law, had been conducted.
“You may recall that I had said during the inaugural meeting with the aviation minister, Hadi Sirika and the chief executives of agencies under the ministry that we are determined to make the industry more effective.
“I have said that the committee will, within the framework of the legislative agenda of the 9th Assembly, strive to bequeath to Nigerians an aviation industry that is virile, safe and reliable.
“I want to assure you and everyone that we will not renege on this promise. The contributions and memoranda from the critical stakeholders would definitely be considered by the committee in the final amendment process of the act”, he said.
Nnaji further explained that the memorandum submitted by stakeholders have shown that the aviation industry needs a strong NCAA that will effectively oversight the industry without executive interference.
