The Edo Government in Benin on Friday unveiled six armoured vehicles provided for to the state Police Command
Our correspondent reports that of the six vehicles, one is armoured personnel carrier while five are armoured multi-purpose vehicles.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who unveiled the crime-fighting vehicles at the police headquarters, said the facilities would send a strong message to criminals to relocate from the state.
The governor noted that the crime-fighting vehicles could also be used for bomb detection and not control to enthrone law and order.
“I want to thank the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, for making these facilities available. The sight of these facilities is enough to put criminals to fight.
“We will continue to cooperate and collaborate with the state police command to put criminals out of business in the state, and in whatever way we can contribute to this, we will do so”, Oshiomhole said.
He said the state remained one of the safest in the South-South region and indeed in the country.
He commended the leadership of Mr. David Omajola, the state police commissioner, adding “We indeed appreciate your leadership of the command”.
In his speech, Omojota promised the governor that with the new equipment, the police would put criminals to fight.
“We will not disappoint, we will put criminals to fight, we won’t allow them to operate. With this additional equipment, we will ensure that the state is safe for development”.
