Bauchi Dangles Employment, N150,000 For Gold Medal
The Bauchi State Government has promised automatic employment and a reward of N150,000 to any athlete who win a gold medal at the National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt.
Gov. Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State made the promise on Sunday in Bauchi when he bade farewell to the state contingent to the Games.
Yuguda, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Sagir Saleh, said that in addition, athletes who won Silver and Bronze medals at the competition would receive N100,000 and N50,000 as rewards respectively.
He congratulated the athletes and sports administrators on the successes recorded during the last intra-zonal elimination in Jalingo, Taraba State.
Yuguda urged the athletes to redouble their efforts and consolidate on the success recorded at the intra-zonal games to make the state proud.
“We will continue to support you by making funds available for you to attend championships at various levels to enable you improve on your performance. “This is a deliberate effort by our administration to accord greater priority to sports in order to put the state in its rightful place in the scheme of things.
“But let me remind you that in any competition, there must be winners and losers. I therefore appeal to you to take whatever verdict in the true spirit of sportsmanship,“ he added.
