Group Wants Inclusion In Rivers Pilgrims Board
The Rivers State chapter of the Ministers of God Civic Centre, (MGCC), an interdenomenational religious organisation, has called for the inclusion of its members in the planned re-constitution of the state Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
The group at its readership seminar in Port Harcourt said the move was necessary to give its body a sense of belonging. It also pledged to embark on a campaign to sensitise the churches in the state on their Civic responsibilities.
The responsibilities include breaking the shackles of political ignorance among the people through constant enlightenment, promotion of Church participation in active politics as well as embarking on campaign against violence by youths in the society.
In his lecture entitled, “integrity of a man of God in the Ministry and Society”, the Methodist Bishop of Port Harcourt, Rt. Rev. Chimezuo O. Nwankpa decried the poor attitude of some men of God in the society which he said has reduced their esteem in the eyes of the public.
The Bishop whose paper was presented by one Israel Nwachukwu also attributed the situation on the quest for materialism by most men of God.
The cleric stressed the need for Christians to trust in the all sufficient and rewarding ability of God, renounce what ever is against their faith criticise constructively and allow the word of God guide individual action.
Also speaking on the topic, character of A called Minister, Rev. Bethel Jaja expressed displeasure over the rate of decadence in the society.
Rev. Jaja who blamed it on a generational gap, however, stressed the need for men of God to embark on a programme towards character development in the society.
Earlier the convener of the seminar who is also the State Coordinator of MGCC, Rev. Godswill E.D. Jumbo had said that the group would support the policies and programmes of the present Administration in the state.
Rev. Jumbo however used the occasion to congratulate Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and President Goodluck Jonathan for their re-election victory.
