NCC Commences Sim Card Registration Nationwide
The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has formally commenced the registration of Sim cards nationwide
The Director of Public Affairs of the Commission, Mr Dave Imoke, in a statement in Abuja recently, said that the commission commenced the official registration exercise nationwide on March 28, 2011.
Imoke noted that the exercise will take place simultaneously across the nation, adding that users of mobile phones in Nigeria must register their Sim Cards with its appointed agents nationwide.
“All Sim cards, irrespective of the network, are to be registered in one spot where the Sim card registration centres are located” he said.
He said that more centres are to be deployed with every part of the country was fully covered.
According to him, the exercise will stretch for six months from the date of commencement.
He hinted that subscribers will be mandated to provide national identity card, international passport, driver’s licence or authentication letter with passport photograph signed by traditional ruler/community leader in the case of rural dwellers.
The NCC Director of Public Affairs, also pointed out that biometric information and digital photograph would be taken at the centres inorder to ensure proper job.
The exercise, he said would be free and added that subscribers must provide truthful information about themselves as information taken would not be changed.
Earlier, he had urged all subscribers of mobile phone services to ensure that their Sim cards are registered without hindrance.
