Minister Wants NERC To Release Funds To REA
The Minister for Power, Engr Sale Mamman, has called on the management of Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to without further delay, release statutory funds meant for rural electrification to the management of Rural Electrification Agency REA to enable the Agency perform its responsibility of taking electricity to the doorsteps of rural communities.
Mamman stated that it was only when that was done, that the process of electrifying rural communities across the country could be fast-tracked, to enable the agency attract development and electricity to the doorsteps of those living in the rural communities so that they can also embrace development.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a two- day retreat organised by the ministry of power for stakeholders in the power ministry to enable them brainstorm on issues affecting electricity supply and perhaps find a way forward on how to solve the power problem which has been like a thorn in the flesh of many Nigerians.
The communiqué, which was signed by Mamman in company of Minister of Power for State, Giddy Jedy-Agba, called on the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to release the statutory funds meant for rural electrification to the Rural Electrification Agency REA to enable REA meet up with its obligations as provided for under the EPSR Act 2005.
