Cleric Wants More Int’l Airlines At PHIA …As Air France Finally Leaves PH
Sequel to low level of operations at the international terminal of the airport, Bishop of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Romel Emenike, has urged aviation stakeholders to make efforts to attract more international airlines into the Port Harcourt Airport.
He said that since the inauguration of the international terminal of the airport by President Muhammadu Buhari last year, the international terminal has reduced in operational activities, in spite of all the up-to-date facilities.
Emenike, who made this known while speaking to aviation correspondents at the Port Harcourt airport last Wednesday noted that with the facilities on ground, government and stakeholders are expected to attract more international airlines into the airport.
The clergy, however, blamed the lull in operational activities at airport on the decline in oil and gas sector coupled with the level of insecurity in the state.
“Despite the slowdown of activities in Port Harcourt International Airport, all the terminals still require more people to work and run them.
“The international terminal was funded by the Federal Government and the Chinese Exim Bank loan, and had been commissioned, and now we need things working as expected”, he said.
From available record, Port Harcourt Airport is approximately 28,000 metres square and can facilitate seven million passengers annually, with 24 check-in counters, three baggage collection carousels, 12 immigration desk at arrival and 16 immigration desk on departure and four passenger boarding bridges, among others.
