‘Impatience, Bane Of Nigeria’s Development’
River State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has identified lack of patience as one of the greatest problems confronting the country.
Governor Amaechi stated this at the New Year Thanksgiving Service at Saint Simon’s Anglican Church Ikuru Town in the Andoni Local Government Area of the State. Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, Governor Amaechi observed that patience had ceased to be a virtue among Nigerians in all walks of life, pointing out that the emphasis on making it at all cost has destroyed this God’s given virtue, and was behind the several problems threatening to bring the country down.
He enumerated the areas of the country’s life where impatience has aided the destruction of the fabric of good social life as on the road where a little patience and care for the other driver and road users would have saved the country from needless accidents that claim several lives and cause traffic jams in our cities. The Rivers State chief executive observed that overnight, a youngman wants to drive the best car hence takes to crime, while in government, people want to make the whole money hence increased corruption and poor service delivery on projects that would have helped our society to be a better place to live in. Governor Amaechi warned that unless the nation drew closer to God and imbibed the virtue of patience as a national ethos, our country despite her abundant resources and the efforts of the current government to better her lot, will continue to be doomed.
