The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs, has empowered about 100 widows in the State by providing them with tools that would boost their self reliance and economic enhancement.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs George Izunwa while delivering the gift items to the widows appreciated Governor Chibuike Amaechi for his women friendly stance in the state and urged the widows to make good use of the gifts so as to better their lives and their families.
The gift items consist amongst others are hair dryers with electric generators, sewing machines, grinding machines. Mrs Izunwa admonished the widows to ensure their participation in the voting process while also emphasising the need for regular medical checks by women.
The Executive Director / CEO of RSSDA, Mr Noble Pepple in his speech at the occasion reiterated the focus of the Governor’s mandate to RSSDA which hinged on alleviating poverty, hence the Agency’s decision to touch the lives of widows whose economic status is usually negatively affected at the demise of their husbands. As a government agency with a human face, he said RSSDA decided to share their end –of-year xmas celebration with the widows in order to give them a sense of belonging at this festive period.
