Polls Violence: Amaechi’s Allegations, False -RIVNESCA
The management of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency (RIVNESCA) has described as laughable, frivolous and outright falsehood the allegation by former state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to the effect that the agency’s staff and corps members were involved in electoral violence during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
Reacting to Amaechi’s outburst accusing Governor Nyesom Wike’s government of using its employees to perpetrate the recent electoral violence in some parts of the state, RIVNESCA’s Director General, Dr. Uche Chukwuma, accused the former governor, now transportation minister, of playing to the gallery rather than fashioning out ways of redeeming his battered image in managing APC’s divided house.
“It is rather unfortunate that former governor of the state can descend so low to cry wolf when there is none. We must realize that politics will come and go but the state remains. So, why do we destroy the state just to please Abuja masters”, Chukwuma declared.
He advised Rivers people not to be deceived by the antics of Abuja politicians whose stock-in-trade was to demarcate and destroy the state, adding that posterity would never forgive such people.
RIVNESCA, he said, was a creation of law and no matter the onslaught against it, would survive the test of time.
“People may have forgotten, perhaps, in a hurry that RIVNESCA’s employees are Rivers people and are entitled to freely vote for their choice and conscience”, he said.
Chukwuma further explained that it was unfortunate that any right thinking man can rationalize an armless corps like RIVNESCA to face a well fortified Nigerian Army in a gun battle.
He urged Amaechi and his co-travellers to always put Rivers first as they have no other state of their own instead of jettisoning the wellbeing of the state and its indigenes.
