Delta State Is Not Going To Battle Field -Dame Okowa
Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Dame Edith Okowa, at the weekend said the annual gathering of women in the state under the aegis of “Mothers Arise” is to ensure Delta State and by extension Nigeria do not become a battle fields during the coming general elections.
Mrs Okowa, convener of Women Arise who spoke at the 12th edition of the prayer conference in Asaba, with the theme, “Thy Will, O Lord”, said the programme was geared towards making the society a better place.
She explained that this year’s fellowship of the women was aimed at educating women on their role in the upbringing of children.
Mrs Okowa stressed that she was not moved by the threats she has been hearing about the election but the words of God, which she disclosed has been telling her that the days of the elections shall be peaceful.
According to her, Nigerians are brothers and sisters despite diverse ethnic, religion, background, pointing out that God’s purpose will always be fulfilled in the country.
She urged women to remain in the plan of God so that they could be used as instrument for the fulfillment of his purpose for the country. She reminded them that they were on pilgrimage on earth and that no position is permanent.
“Until you are broken you cannot do God’s will. When we came to Asaba, I did not know l would be the Governor’s wife. I am here by providence. There is nothing without end. After four years l won’t be here again, somebody else will be here. People must offend us but let us have a place in our heart to forgive others,” Okowa said.
In her sermon taken from Matt 26:36, and other references like Heb 4:2, Jeremiah 9:20 and Heb 5:7, Sister Esther Edefianene, noted it was time for women to take action on some issues bedeviling the nation and humanity, and reexamine themselves whether indeed they are covenant keepers.
She said, “To do the will of God is not a group matter, it is a personal matter, not conference meetings, negotiations and there must be father daughter relationship.”
Barrister Kesiana Samson thanked God for the 12th edition, stating that brokenness is the pass mark for anyone that wants to get through, function with God and excel in His house.
