The new paramount ruler and Nyenweli of Rukpokwu, Eze Collins Chukwuma Ogwu, says the decision of Rukpokwu Town in Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State to support Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s 2011 gubernatorial ambition was borne out conviction of the development strides of the Governor in his first outing.
Eze Ogwu 111, stated this at his presentation and coronation of four family chiefs in his palace to mark his first traditional assignment.
The paramount ruler said the support of Rukpokwu people to Governor Amaechi’s administration is irrevocable, noting that since the inception of his government, Rivers State has witnessed several infrastructural development across the state.
He said the foot prints of Governor Amaechi’s administration can be found in every sector of the economy and called for total support for Amaechi’s second outing to enable him consolidate on the gains of his first outing.
He also spoke of the need to preserve the culture of the people, describing culture as the window of the people’s heritage.
Eze Ogwu noted with dismay that the cherished culture handed to the people by the fore-fathers was gradually dying out among the youths, blaming the situation on youth exposure to eastern culture.
The paramount ruler however, told the newly crowned family chiefs to regard the honour as a call to service, reminding them that they have the onerous task or responsibility to maintain peace and order in their respective places as well as being instrument in re-awakening community development. According to him, this is the time for the chiefs and the people to come together in the efforts at fast-tracking development of their respective areas.
