Akunyili Bags Media Marshal Award
The Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili has been conferred with Media Marshal Award for her untiring contributions towards repositioning the Nigerian media and workers.
The award was conferred on the Minister recently at the 34th quadrennial Council Meeting of Assemblies of God Nigeria at the International Conference Centre, Ntezi/Okpoto Ebonyi State, by the Media Department of the denomination.
Presenting the award, the National Director of Media Ministries, Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev. Ben Okoroafor stated that the gesture was informed by the giant strides of the minister in enhancing media practices through extrinsic and intrinsic motivations.
Rev. Okoroafor noted the role the media department has played in propagating the gospel and the tenet of faith of the denomination which have impacted positively on the citizenry.
He praised the denomination’s electronic media for establishing VSAT and AG Webportal which has over 130 subdomains covering all arms and administrative units of the church.
Receving the award on behalf of Akunyili the Zonal Director, South-South and South East, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mrs Ima Ekpo thanked the Media Department and the leadership of Assemblies of God Nigeria for the award.
Mrs Ekpo stated that the minister deserved the award because of her antecedents and passionate contribution for the holistic development of media practitioning and practitioners in Nigeria.
She noted Akunyili’s spirited and dogged commitment for a living wage for media practitioners in government –owned media establishments in view of the harzards and peculiarities associated with the profession.
Highlight was the launching of the Ibo, Hausa and Yoruba translations of the Full Life Bible, an architecture of Assemblies of God Nigeria.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
