PH Airport Management Bans Car Parking
As part of measures to beef up security at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, the management of the airport has banned car parking within the Protocol or Presidential wing of the airport.
Mr. Henry Anyanwu, Manager of the airport told The Tide Correspondent that the decision was informed by the Otober 1 bomb blast in Abuja which claimed about 13 lives.
According to Mr. Anyanwu, the development is not to discourage people from using the protocol lounge meant for dignitaries but for the safety of passengers.
He explained that the Presidential wing was becoming a general arrival and departure arena for all categories of the airport users or passengers.
“The Protocol lounge originally meant for the President, governors and other top government officials has in recent time been turned to a public car park. The place is exclusively reserved for certain personalities”, he said and appealed to users of the airport to cooperate with the management by parking their cars outside the gate of the Presidential wing.
On the issue of casual workers at the airport, Mr. Anyanwu stated that out of the number casualised, about 30 have been offered permanent Job while there are plans to employ more.
He dismissed rumour making the rounds that all casual workers at the Port Harcourt International Airport have been asked to stop work, saying that it was not the intention of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to keep people as casual workers for so long.
He noted that arrangements were on-going with the Rivers State Government to ensure that the airport road is dualised just as a round about would be constructed at the junction, adding, “meanwhile, maintenance work will soon commence on the road.”
