Media Manager Rates Telecoms Sector High …Tasks Adenuga, Others On Jobs
The General Manager,
Avid Media, Chief Godwin Uchebuo, has said that the telecommunication industry is the fastest growing sector in the country.
He said since the advent of the Global System of Mobile Communication (GSM) in Nigeria, only few sectors in the country can measure up with the telecom industry.
Uchogbuo, in a chat with journalists on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, maintained that the sector also helped in re-shaping Nigerians on how best to handle communication matters.
According to him, before the advent of GSM, most Nigerians were not in the habit of prompt replies to official memos.
He said but upon the coming of GSM and internet system, most of them have risen up to the occasion and can now act in line with the global standard.
The Avid media boss, recalled that the social media was another platform that aided Nigerians in information dissemination.
Some areas according to him, which are positively touched by the telecom system are education, civil service, oil and gas industry etc.
He explained that even local government councils in the country which are ICT-driven record better results than those which still operate manually.
He noted that such councils also stand a better chance of increasing awareness of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among the local people.
In the areas of employment generation, he scored the telecom sector below average, saying that they are yet to do their best.
He said if the sector can open up, and consider employment, the system will gulp over half of the number of unemployed people in the country.
Meanwhile, he has called on Chief Mike Adenuga and other Nigerians in the telecommunication world, to be proactive and bail the nation’s unemployed generation.
