RSUST Students Salute VC Over Online Exams Suspension
Students of the state Uni
versity of Science and Technology (RSUST), have expressed satisfaction over the suspension of the online examination by the acting vice chancellor, Prof Blessing Didia.
The students in a chat with The Tide at the campus over the week, pointed out that the online examination was not the best thing for their academic development.
A student, Chijioko Amadi, said the online examination type was not encouraging broad reading as many students depended mostly on past question papers.
He said that the process should be total if the schools management want to operate it and not limited to Institute of foundation studies (IfS) subjects or courses.
According to him, the system was encouraging a double standard in the institution, thereby confusing new intakes of the schools true examination stance.
Another student, Mr Monday Igwe, noted that the online / computer examination system for IFS courses was only a gate way to examination malpractice.
He said even the operators of the system have a way of doctoring students scores at the end of each examination.
Igwe maintained that manual system of examination remains the best way to that undergraduate.
In her view, Chioma Njoku, said it would not be proper to handle those in science through computer-based system of examination.
She said if that trend was not checked the instiution would have been producing half baked engineers and others.
But others who spoke to the contrary, said the computer system was the best way of testing freshers, going by their experience in JAMB examinations.
They maintained that the system, discouraged drastically, the issue of sorting as students scores were out, rightly taken by the examiners.
A scource, from the VC’s office, has said that the suspended online examination, has saved upto N30 million for the institution.
