Rivers Teachers Commend Personnel Audit

Participants undergoing training at a two-day online workshop for unemployed youths in Rivers State, recently.
The ongoing identifica
tion exercise organised for teachers in the state has been described as another plus to the Governor Nyesom Wike – led administration.
Some of the teachers who spoke with The Tide on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, said the exercise would fish-out ghost workers in the system.
According to them, the identification exercise came at the right time when the country was fighting corruption and other forms of mal-practices.
The Tide gathered that the exercise will prune down the number of teachers in the state, especially those who came through the back door.
A source at Elekiahia Primary School in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, where teachers from Ikwerre and Khana Local Government Areas were screened, said the officials were only targeting identification cards that were electronically captured.
He said those whose ID cards were suspected not to be properly captured were taken aside and advised privately.
He said the implication was to enable them (the suspects) to declare the true position or resign honourably.
The source hinted that it took him about two days to get cleared due to the high number of teachers that turned up for the exercise.
Another respondent, who also pleaded anonymity, said there was no witch-hunting in the system as alleged in some quarters
He said the exercise was 50 transparent that no innocent person would be affected, saying that it was a welcome development.
But the teachers have lamented what they termed as strenuous exercise, suggesting that they should be screened at their various places of assignment.
