Korea To Train Seven Nigerians On e-Govt
The Korean International
Cooperation Agency (KOICA), says it would train seven more government officials in Korea as part of its support for capacity building for e-government in Nigeria.
KOICA Country Director in Nigeria, Mr Jung Sang-hoon, made this known at a pre-departure orientation held for beneficiaries of the programme in Abuja on Friday.
The Tide source reports that six government officials in the country had earlier this year, been given scholarships for Master’s Degrees in Korean Universities.
Jung said that the seven new beneficiaries, drawn from different ministries, departments and agencies, were awarded full scholarships to run Masters’ programmes at Kookmin University in South Korea.
He urged participants to develop action plans to facilitate the e-government project in Nigeria.
“For KOICA, you are the first of its kind, that is, to put a long-term scholarship programme as a component to our training project.
“The difference with this and other scholarship programmes is that you are to focus on the objectives of our project; so a thorough understanding of our project is a must.
“When you get there you should have an understanding of how it is done so you can bring in the local content and develop an action plan.
“Part of your action plan should be how to effectively promote awareness on e-government as well as some technology transfer and how to enhance joint partnership between Korea and Nigeria,” he said.
Mr Mamman Musa, a participant from the Centre for Management Development, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, said that the scholarship was an opportunity to promote bilateral relations between both countries.
He said: “I want to thank KOICA and assure that we will do our best to promote the project and the Korea-Nigeria relations.
“We know that Korea ranks number one in e-government globally, so we would take what we have learnt and implement it in our system of governance.”
The KOICA e-government project is expected to train 22, 625 Nigerian civil servants from 2015 to 2018 to reinforce their practical e-government capacity.
The South Korean Government, through KOICA, is investing a total of 8.56 million dollars on Capacity Building of e-Government in Nigeria between 2013 and 2018.
South Korea ranks leader in e-Government, emerging as number one in the UN e-Government Readiness Index Survey for three consecutive times, 2010, 2012 and 2014.
Partner organisations in the project include Federal Ministry of Communication Technology, Public Service Institute of Nigeria and National Information Technology Development Agency.
