Telecom Dealers Appeal To RSG Over Relocation
Telecommunication deal
ers at the Computer Village, near the MTN office at Rumukwurusi, Port Harcourt, have called on the Rivers State Government to relocate them to a permanent site or expand their place of operation.
The traders who spoke on individual basis, said the present place of operation has become too tight and needed to be expanded.
According to one of them, Mrs Ihuoma Amadi, the area can only accommodate a handful of the traders, hence the road-side market activity by some of them.
Amadi who spoke with The Tide Tuesday in Port Harcourt, recalled that their appeal to past administrations on the subject matter failed but expressed optimism that their request will scale through with the present administration.
She said, if they are relocated to a permanent site, their market may compete with computer village in Lagos.
The GSM phone seller explained that most of their suppliers are not willing to sale on credit basis since their purchase was in a small quantity.
Furthermore, the telecom dealer, narrated how lucrative the business was, saying that the need to expand their business place is now paramount.
Also speaking, Mr. Obi Dede, suggested that some of the buildings along their areas be demolished to expand their trade or be relocated to another area.
He said they are not only into buying and selling of telecom products, adding that they also deal on programmes and other internet services.
Dede, who declined relocating to the Greater Port Harcourt City Area in Igwuruta, said anywhere within the Aba Road axis will be of a great help to them, due to the nature of their business.
It would be recalled that the telecom dealers had in recent times cried out over what they tagged double taxation by some operators suspected to be Obio/Akpor Local Government staff.
