Taraba, BoI Sign N700m Agreement On Industrial Dev

(BoI) and Taraba Government last Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding of N700 million to foster industrial development and promote growth through creation of jobs in the state.
The Managing Director of BoI, Mr Rasheed Olaoluwa, announced this in Abuja during the signing of the MoU.
He said that the bank’s partnership with the state would not be limited to financial intervention alone but to transform Nigeria’s industrial sector by providing financial and business support services to enterprises.
“The MoU will foster industrial development in Taraba State and promote inclusive growth through job and wealth creation.
“In May 2014, the state government contributed the sum of N350 million which has been matched in like sum by the BoI for the establishment of the N700 million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development Fund.
“ This pool of fund shall be used to provide loans to MSMEs in Taraba State.
“In this regard, the state has emerged as second state in the North East geopolitical zone of Nigeria to partner with the bank under the state’s matching fund scheme,’’ Olaoluwa said.
He said that the bank had already approved loans totaling N299.4 million to 18 enterprises in Taraba, adding that the enterprises were all engaged in agro processing.
Olaoluwa added that 135 direct and estimated 400 indirect jobs had been created by the enterprise that drew on the bank loans.
Gov. Darius Ishaku, in his address, said that the MoU would serve as a catalyst to the industralisation process of the state.
“It is gratifying to know that the sum of N350 million being the state’s contribution had been released to the Bank of Industry in April 2014 by Taraba State Government.
“Having fulfilled our own part of the obligation of the counterpart fund, I want to urge the bank to, as matter of urgency, commence the process of disbursement of the loan to our people.
“This loan is important to me as the beginning of the capacity building of our people to reduce unemployment and poverty.
“It is hoped that this partnership will lay the foundation that will bring about the take off of the industrial development of the state by inculcating entrepreneurship culture among the people of Taraba State,’’ Ishaku said.
Earlier, Mr Lawan Yakubu, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Co-operatives and Poverty Alleviation, said that the MoU was essentially a business and development fund for Taraba indigenous entrepreneurs to engage in.
Yakubu said that the programme had been solely packaged by the government to provide financial assistance to the entrepreneurs, to accelerate the pace and promote the attainment of industrial development.
“By the MoU, the parties have agreed to contribute a matching fund of N700 million and the state has contributed its share of the counter fund.
“The stage is now set for the disbursement of the fund for our eligible entrepreneurs,’’ Yakubu said.

According to Dr Okoye, part of the innovations recorded by safe a Life Foundation is the introduction of a medical application known as ‘my home clinic’ which avails patients the opportunity to engage medical facilities and enjoy medical services from their homes.

The renown medical practitioner pointed out that proper information management is applied to check misdiagnosis, minimize hytrogenic deaths and other tactical errors of medical enquiry; and practice.

He emphasised that the home delivery of medical services has also enhanced zero maternal mortality, as proper digital records of pregnant women are carried out with precision and followed up with proper medical services.

Dr Okoye called on governments and other stakeholders to key into the innovation to get it properly domesticated in tertiary, secondary and primary health care practices, adding that the target is to bridge the gap in jakpa syndrome and shore up Nigeria’s life expectancy ratio by reducing preventable deaths.

Oil Exploration Resumption: OYF Demands 500 Job Slots

Youths of oil-rich Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State under the aegis of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) have demanded 500 job slots from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited following the planned resumption of oil exploration in the area.

This figure is against the already released 40 slots by the company.

Consequently, the youths have moved to convene a national congress of youths to address issues relating to the oil exploration, which has sparked palpable divisions in the area.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Planning Committee for the Congress, in PortHarcourt, at the weekend, the President-General of OYF, Worldwide, Engr. Legborsi Yamaabana, described the congress as urgent, and targetted at addressing all issues arising from the planned oil resumption.

Yamaabana commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his efforts in giving attention to reopening oil businesses in the area, noting however, that Ogoni stands at a crossroads following the issues surrounding the oil resumption.

He said “The Ogoni nation stands at a critical crossroads in its history. We acknowledge the renewed political attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), particularly regarding the proposed resumption of oil and gas exploration in Ogoniland after more than three decades of suspension.

“While we recognize this development as a significant national conversation, we emphasize that any engagement concerning Ogoniland must be anchored on the principles of environmental justice, equitable benefit-sharing, and the protection of the dignity, rights, and future of the Ogoni people especially our youth, who remain the custodians of tomorrow.

“The Ogoni struggle is not merely historical; it is living, evolving, and central to the future of sustainable development in the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.”

He called for calm over the 40 job opportunity given to the area by the NNPCL, insisting that such allocation was insufficient compared to the contribution of Ogoni to the economy.

Yamaabana rather requested that NNPCL, as a matter of importance, give 500 job slots to youths of the area,

In the interim, the leadership of OYF Worldwide has observed the unnecessary tension and uproar surrounding the reported 40 slots of employment opportunity allocated to Ogoni youths in NNPCL and its subsidiaries, as part of Federal Government confidence-building measure toward the resumption of oil and gas activities in Ogoniland.

“We wish to state clearly that this 40 slots is paltry and insignificant given the scale of our sacrifice; and as such, it should not become a source of internal rancour, division, or friction among our people.

“We strongly appeal to all Ogoni political, traditional, and community leaders to sheath their swords, maintain calm, and refrain from unnecessary squabbles over crumbs.

“Without preempting the sovereign deliberations of the upcoming Congress, let it be noted that Ogoni youth will not settle for tokenism.

“At the upcoming Congress, we shall formally demand a minimum of 500 direct employment opportunities within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its subsidiaries for qualified Ogoni youths, who have been economically sidelined and left inactive throughout this 33-year stalemate.”

Following the issues raised, Yamaabana said that convening of the Ogoni Youth National Congress 2026 has become an urgent necessity, regretting that some individuals were working to truncating the efforts of the Federal Government toward peaceful resumption if oil exploration in the area.

He, however, tasked the committee to amongst other terms of references design an operational framework for the Congress and ensure a Broad-based mobilisation of other youth groups, stakeholders for the Congress that would be held both physically and virtually.

FG Pledges Stronger Support For Oil, Gas Training

The Federal Government has pledged stronger support for the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) to help build a world-class workforce for the country’s oil and gas industry.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, made the pledge while speaking in his keynote address at the just-concluded OGTAN Human Capital Development Conference and Expo, held in Warri, Delta State.

Lokpobiri said Nigeria was well-positioned to build a world-class oil and gas workforce, backed by growing investor confidence and an unprecedented pipeline of major projects heading towards Final Investment Decisions.

He described Nigeria as an emerging global investment hub, attributing the development to the incentive-driven reforms of President Bola Tinubu, which he said had improved the country’s competitiveness for international capital.

According to him, the pipeline of projects moving towards final investment decisions would require professionals trained to globally competitive standards, with much of the training expected to be delivered through OGTAN’s more than 400 members.

“Those human beings are members of the public who must have been trained by OGTAN, who are expected to have the competence to deliver those projects, not just for Nigeria, but for the entire world,” he said.

Lokpobiri noted that many lecturers and resource persons across Nigerian universities and tertiary institutions were still working with materials that had not kept pace with a modern, AI-driven industry.

He stressed the need to retrain trainers to equip the next generation of engineers, technicians and other professionals with the skills demanded by the industry.

“If the training system underpinning that capital is still operating on a 50-year-old blueprint, the risk is that Nigeria’s newly de-risked capital arrives faster than its newly-promised workforce can be built,” he said.

The minister said the Federal Government’s response to closing the skills gap was being channelled through the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, in partnership with OGTAN, to strengthen training capacity nationwide.

“As government, what we do is see how we can support OGTAN members. The government is committed to this, and we are doing it through NCDMB and the NOGICD Act,” he said.

Lokpobiri urged OGTAN to expand its focus across the continent, noting that countries such as Angola, Congo and Gabon already depended on Nigerian-trained oil and gas professionals.

“The rest of Africa is depending on human resources from Nigeria, and someone must be responsible for training that human capital, not just for Nigeria,” he said.
