PTDF To Build New Engineering Department For RSUST
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has approved the construction of new Department for Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) in order to improve the capacity of manpower for the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
While handing over the building site to Yolas Consultants, weekend, the Vice Chancellor of the RSUST, Professor Barineme Fakae expressed appreciation for choosing RSUST as one of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria to benefit from the project.
Fakae noted that the State-of- art equipment envisaged for the department would go a long way to boost the study of Petroleum/Chemical Engineering in the University.
He explained that the management of the university has already studied Architectural design of the proposed building and has come up with some modifications, taking into consideration the terrain of Rivers State.
“Modifications are necessary as they would guarantee adequate functionality and sustainability of the building on completion.
Earlier, Mr. Uzo Mbanefo of Yolas Consultants, the firm handling the construction of the building, explained that PTDF as a government agency was primarily concerned with the development of Manpower in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
According to him, the project in RSUST will cover, among other things, the construction of the departmental building, the provision of ancillary facilities such as boreholes, surface and over-head tanks, generator and transformer.
Other facilities, he said, are Supply and Installation of Information Technology facilities, book and library equipment.
“Laboratory and workshop equipment will also be supplied and installed in the building, Mr. Mbanefo concluded.
