Dolphins FC Not Eager To Win Super Four
Dolphins FC of Port
Harcourt has said that the club is not eager to win the Super four trophy in Abuja, but to use it to adequately prepare the team for CAF Champions League next month.
The Port Harcourt-based team would tomorrow lockhorns with Nigeria Professional Football league winners, kano pillars in the opening game of Super Four, that includes, the Nigeria Under-23 and 21, at Abuja.
This was contained in a statement signed by the media officer of the team, China Acheru, which was made available to Tidesports.
In the statement, the head coach of the team, Stanley Egurma said the reason why the club resumed one week behind scheduled was because most of the team players did not report to camp on time.
Eguma explained that the camp officially opened on Sunday last week, but did not get a full house of players until a week later.
He expressed sadness over what happened, adding that some unavoidable factors were responsible for the delay.
“It is unfortunate that we are starting very late but a” lot of things attributed to it.
We first had to register our team for the continent, then sort out logistics to get players in camp and we are happy all that is behind us now” Eguma said.
The technical adviser, stated that the club has achieved a little, because there was intensive training in the camp, adding that, it is better to be late than never.
“I believed we had achieved something in camp before the tournament in Abuja, tomorrow.
The idea is to prepare the players for CAF cup next month “ and we will use the Super Four to build ourselves” he added.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
