IAUE’s Computer Confab: HOD Assures On IT Exposure, Exploits

Department of Computer Science, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Port Harcourt has organised its maiden Annual International Conference with the theme, “Computing And Technological Advancements.
Speaking with newsmen during the three-day programme, held at the university auditorium, the 6th Head of Department, Computer Science, Dr Constance Amannah stated that the conference would expose students of the department to various areas in Information Technology (IT) theories, practice, exploits, among others.
Amannah said questions surrounding the nexus between computing and technological advancements as well as the link between knowledge and wisdom would all be answered, adding that to her, the answer is simply put, wisdom is the application of knowledge, knowledge synthesised.
He described scientific or technological advancement as the generation or discovery of knowledge, adding that the objective of the three- day conference is to explore knowledge within the conventional computing such as cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, among others.
The HoD emphasised that there are lots of ways that technology changes human beings saying: “We live in world where the physical world exists in parallel with cyberspace and digital representations of ourselves. Today, we have more virtual friends than real forming together large online communities.
“We now live in a world where data is oil, in a world where it is easier to get free WiFi and free water. Today, we don’t use technology, but we live in technology, internet is no longer global network that we connect to instead it is now interconnected world we live in. For our generation the easiest and fastest way to change the world is to build a new technology,” the HoD added.
He stated that the department of Computer Science is one of the youngest in the University as such have designed the event in such a way that it would be an annual ritual.
The HoD stressed that the expectations and impact from the programme would be great, saying, “In the thought of Nikola Tesla, when wireless is perfectly applied, the whole earth will be converted into a huge brain. We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly irrespective of distance, So progression from bivalent logic to fuzzy is a significant positive step in the evolution of science.
