Tinubu Inaugurates 10th NASS, Tuesday, …Solicits Support For Akpabio

The 10th National Assembly will be inaugurated on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
This is according to an announcement, signed by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Tambawal, yesterday.
The inauguration is expected to be performed by President Bola Tinubu.
During the occasion, 109 Senators-elect and 359 members-elect of the House of Representatives are expected to be sworn-in.
The Tide recalls that shortly after the February 25 general elections, a member-elect from Taraba State,
Isma’ila Maihanchi who was elected to represent Jalingo, Yerro, and Zing Federal Constituency died, reducing the available number of House of Representatives members-elect from 360 to 359.
According to the announcement, senators-elect and members-elect of the House of Representatives are to visit the Senate conference room 231 and the House of Representatives conference room 301, respectively, with copies of their code of conduct clearance, certificates of return and valid identity cards for registration on Monday, June 12, at 10:00 am.
“Due to the ongoing renovation of the two chambers, senators-elect and Honourable members-elect are to come along with only one guest for the ceremony, who will be seated at the arcade,” the statement added.
Tambawal further added that only senators-elect and members-elect will be given access to the chambers.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has thrown his weight behind the ambition of Senator Godswill Akpabio to become the next Senate President.
This indication emerged on Wednesday night when the President directed that all support should be given to the preferred candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the presiding officers positions.
Tinubu gave the directive when he met with Senators-elect and Members-elect of the APC at the Presidential Villa, with the ruling party’s governors and other leaders in attendance.
He said that the leadership of the incoming 10th National Assembly was largely important to the success of his administration, emphasizing the need to get it right from the start of the new parliament.
Details from the meeting revealed that Tinubu was emphatic on the successful election of Senator Akpabio as Senate President, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas as the Speaker of the House, Senator Jubrin Barau as deputy senate president and Hon. Benjamin Kalu as House deputy speaker.
The leadership of APC had earlier endorsed Akpabio and Abbas for the Senate presidency and House of Representatives speakership, respectively.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
