May Day: C’River Workers Want Power Outage Resolved
The Organised Labour in Cross River State has called on Governor Benedict Ayade to restore power in the State after over six weeks of power outage.
Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Monday Ogbodum, said it is unimaginable that the State can be allowed to be in darkness for so long without any action from the government to restore power.
Speaking during events marking the 2022 International Workers’ Day in the State, Ogbodum said since other neighbouring states have public power supply, it can not be said to be a problem from the national grid.
The labour leader also expressed wonder over why the power plant constructed by the State Government to supplement power from the national grid has not worked ever since it was reportedly completed.
“Let me use this medium to appeal to Governor Ayade to do something about the darkness that has engulfed the State and Calabar in particular in over six weeks.
“What of our own power plant built by His Excellency, which was meant to supplement the national grid? Something should please be done”, the TUC State chayirman said.
The State has been in total darkness for over six weeks, forcing businesses to rely on petrol and diesel.
Meanwhile, petrol is still sold for N190 per litre as against N165, while diesel now sells above N800 per litre in the few stations that sell the product.
