Ajuru Varsity Welcomes ICT Academy Establishment
Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, has welcomed the idea of establishing an information technology academy in the institution by Cisco, an Information Communication Technology (ICT) company.
Onuchuku, who expressed his appreciation of the idea recently, during the donation of some internet equipment to the university by Cisco’s Advisory Board member, Dr. Daniel Ekpeh and his team, said in this era of digitization, the equipment will contribute to human capacity development in the university.
Recalling a similar engagement he had with the company as Director of the University of Port Harcourt Business School, the VC hinted that it would benefit both students and interested members of the public who seek to acquire relevant skills for in-demand jobs in the digital technology sector.
Professor Onuchuku, an economist, expresed hope that when fully operational, the centre would serve as a huge source of revenue generation to the institution.
In his speech, the leader of the Team, Dr Ekpeh, revealed that the institution already has eight certified Cisco instructors at the university’s ICT centre and added that its certificate was globally recognized.
He also stated that the company is into manufacturing of computer equipment, cyber security and internet of things.
Ekpeh further stated that the company seeks to build the capacity of students and prepare them for a career in Computer Networking through the establishment of the planned ICT Academy in the institution.
He appealed to the management of the university to judiciously put the equipment into proper use and not to go the way of some tertiary institutions in the country who would prefer to allow the equipment to remain in the container it was delivered in.
The equipment donated include, 19,000 series of Reuters and 2,950 series of switches.
Cisco’s Communication Officer, Dr Williams Wodi, explained that the donation was to support the Vice-Chancellor’s administration.
The Tide gathered that Cisco Corporation has its Headquarter in San Jose, California, and is integral to the growth of Silicon Valley.
