LGA Chaiman Set To Establish Football Club
The Chairman of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon Thomas Bariere has pleged to establish a football club from his area and register it with Nigeria Amateur Football League (NAFL) saying that other sporting activities will also be encouraged.
Bariere, said this on Saturday, at the opening ceremony of this year edition of the Gwara Football Tournament, at the Gwara primary school field.
He called on the youth to shun violence and take sports very important, adding that sports is a lucrative business.
” I am to establish a football team from area and I will register it with NAFL. This is because football is a lucrative business. Other sports will also be encouraged” Hon. Bariene said.
The Chaiman further promised to give all the registered teams in the competition the sun of hundred thousand naira only(N100, 000) each and winner of the competition will go home with N300,000, while second and third place will cart away N200,000 and N150,00 respectively.
Also speaking the former Executivecutive Director, Finance and Administration of Niger Dalte Development Commission (NDDC) Derek Mene charged all the participating clubs to be peaceful and exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship during and after the tournament.
He also pledged to give the winner the sum N150,00, N100,000 and N50, 000 for second and third place respectively.
In the opening match the Young boys of Gwara FC defeated Kingpower FC 3-0.
