The Rivers State University has lost a lecturer in the Mass Communication Department, Faculty of Humanities.
He is Dr Amanna Peace Ireju.
Dr Amanna was former Mass Communication lecturer at the then Rivers State College of Arts and Science, now Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, Port Harcourt
The Tide learnt that Dr Amanna died after a brief illness in an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt.
A source who spoke to The Tide said the late lecturer was last seen on Tuesday, last week after he supervised his examination for the final year students of the department, adding that he also had some time-out with his colleagues at the university staff club on that faithful day
Our correspondent who visited the department reports that the death of Dr Amanna had thrown the department into mourning and sorrowful mood, adding that both lecturers and students were seen in groups discussing his demise.
Some students who spoke to The Tide on condition of anonymity described his death as shocking and unbelievable.
According to them, the news of his demise came to them as a rude shock and described him as an intelligent young man with academic prowess, and prayed God to grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
