NGO Partners Rivers Community On Development
The Director of a Non -Governmental Organisation (NGO), Care and Development Centre (CADEC), Mrs Rhoda Omorodion, has called on the people of Rumuodamaya Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State to partner and support government to attract government presence in their locality.
She made the call recently during a training programme at the community town hall, saying that the programme on civil education is designed to educate the people of the area on information gathering and service delivery in their area.

Omorodion stated this while delivering her lecture, adding that Charter Demands is one tool to engage government at various sectors and stakeholders for service delivery, saying that with the tool of Charter Demands, there would be a voluntary partnership and agreement between the community and the local authorities.
“Charter Demands gives the community an opportunity and genuine engagement with the local authorities involved in making decisions with regard to government and power sharing in your local area”, Omorodion said.
The NGO’s executive director further stated that Charter Demands gives local people a direct role in influencing local services and also enable them become active contributor to the improvements of their area rather than just being passive recipients.
“You can also be part of making budget in your local government through the Charter Demands,” she said.
According to her, the programme is being targeted at Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
Speaking to newsman after the training, the Chairman of Rumuodamaya Community Development Committee (RCDC), Mr Wobo Friday said that the programme is a welcome development.
He explained that the information gathering during the training will be communicated to his people and he believes they would buy into it.
