No More Excuses, PDP Tells APC …I’m Happy Buhari Is Hale, Hearty – Wike
Following the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari from a medical vacation in the United Kingdom, Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi has charged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop the blame game and focus on governance.
In a chat with newsmen, last Saturday, Makarfi said the PDP has always wished the president well, noting that having returned, the buck passing game should now give way to governance.
“We are glad he is back. The official position of the PDP has been to pray for his quick and full recovery and to return home. Now that he is back, there should be no more buck passing within the government,” he said.
Also speaking to journalists, the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike said that he was happy that Mr. President was back hale and hearty.
Wike said, “We are happy that he is alive and that is why l am here today to rejoice with the family. We should not play politics with everything. We are here talking about health, and irrespective of the party l belong, you can see that l am here today to rejoice with the family. That is what it is supposed to be.
“Don’t play politics with health issues, don’t do that. So, irrespective of what is going on out there, one is happy to be here,” Wike added.
In his reaction, former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the PDP, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said the resilience of protesters eventually forced the hand of Buhari to return home after spending 105 days in London.
The ex-minister commended the Charlie Boy-led #OurMumuDonDo movement, claiming that their offshore campaign in London, forced the president to change his mind to return home.
“I commend the efforts of the #ResumeorResign group for chasing Muhammadu Buhari out of the United Kingdom after one night of protest outside Abuja House in London,” he wrote on his Twitter Handle.
Similarly, Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said that the recovery and recuperation of President Muhammadu Buhari signified that Nigeria was going to recover from any challenge facing her.
Osinbajo, who may handover powers to the president when he communicates to the National Assembly that he was back and fit to take over told State House correspondents that the return of the president and the mammoth crowd that went to the airport to receive him was an indication that the people were happy.
According to him, “Oh, the message to Nigerians is that, the recovery and recuperation of the President is in some sense symbolic of the recovery of Nigeria. Nigeria is going to recover. We are on the path of strong economic recovery and this is an excellent sign that the country is on the right side. There is great hope, there is great excitement and we are going to make it as a nation.
“As you can see from the many Nigerians who lined up on the road to receive the president as he came back, many Nigerians are happy that the president is hale and hearty and that he has come back. It was a natural reaction, most people heard of his arrival only a few hours before then, but as you can see, the response was so spontaneous. So, I think that people were so excited and very happy.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari, last Saturday, held a brief meeting with Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, service chiefs and heads of other security agencies, following his arrival from London.
The closed-door meeting was held at the president’s official residence inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Journalists and other government officials were denied access to the venue for the entire duration of the meeting.
A number of youth, who attempted to make their way into the Presidential Villa to welcome the president, were also barred by security operatives.
