Ikorodu United Battle Ready For Rangers
The title dreams of Enugu
Rangers could suffer a major blow at bottom club Ikorodu United, who have enjoyed a blistering run that has seen them win four of their last five matches.
Champions-in-waiting Rangers and rock bottom Ikorodu United will do battle in the second to the last game of the season in Abeokuta.
Ikorodu United may be doomed for a prompt return to the second division, but that has not stopped them from beating champions Enyimba, Kano Pillars and Heartland recently.
Michael Okoyoh fired Ikorodu’s match winner against former club Enyimba and he said the Lagos club are playing for pride.
“We were the better team (against Enyimba) and we took our chances,” said former Warri Wolves forward Okoyoh.
“We are playing for pride and some of us need to play to get good offers for ourselves ahead of next season.
“We have stopped two former champions, Pillars and Enyimba.”
He also fired a warning to Rangers: “This is just a sign that Rangers will have no place to hide when they play us.”
Fatai Abdullahi opened the scoring against Enyimba on Wednesday and he said Ikorodu United are on “operation No Mercy”.
“We are not a bad side, even in the first round we were just not lucky,” he said.
“I am not surprised that the results are now coming to justify the huge investment of our chairman.
“We have a new spirit and our coach (Dutchman Theo de Jong) has been a source of inspiration.
“We will end the season with our heads high by causing havoc to all the teams challenging for the title.
“It is ‘Operation No Mercy’.”
