Heartland Won’t Be Relegated – Captain
The Captain of Heartland
FC of Owerri, Chinedu Efugh, says the team is focused on ensuring the club secures a place in the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Efugh told Tidesports yestereday in Lagos that in spite of the team’s wobbly performance due to “ill luck’’, it would not be relegated.
The Nazi millionaires as Heartland is called by fans are currently 18th on the log with 21 points from 32 matches, a far cry from its performance in the 2014/2015 season.
“The truth is that we are working hard, my fellow players are working round the clock, I honestly think we have been unlucky, we play like we should.
“We have never had it this bad, but in spite of our situation, we are not giving up; we won’t go on relegation.
“We still have about six matches to go and we are going to get the much needed points to be in contention in the league next season,’’ Efugh said.
Asked if the team’s welfare was not a cause of worry to the players, he told NAN that the management was doing its best.
“The mangers are doing their best, we all know the situation of the country, but we hope that we will be treated with more respect and good remuneration befitting of league players.
“I believe it can be better and eventually we will get there,’’ the captain said.
