Group Tasks FG On Portal System
The Federal Government
has been called upon to build a portal system that will meet the aspirations and expectation of every Nigerian.
The President, Niger Delta Coalition Against Violence (NDCAV), Comrade Lekia B. Christian, made this assertion while fielding questions from journalists on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
He said that the digital media was helping the post to generate more volumes of mail and develop more products for the public.
Christian noted that well built postal system, wil fight and withstand the ICT driven world of digital technology.
According to him, the importance of the post cannot be undermined no matter the level of Information Technology (IT) across the globe.
He explained that the postal service are essential component of every country’s economic and social structure, thus, the need to strengthen the sector.
The peace advocate also urged the Federal Government on the need to draw a strategic road map where NIPOST would be guided by the world postal strategy as part of the universal postal union (UPU) initiatives.
Christian said efforts must be made towards implementing the United Nation’s Post 2015 Sustainable Development Coals (SDGs) agenda, if the government is prepared to revive the NIPOST.
He called for spreading of postal facilities in the country, stressing that NIPOST should take advantage of such opportunities and ensure that all parts of the country are accessible by the industry.
He said that the only body that has the legal right to call on federal government to appoint a post master-general is the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as the umbrella body of workers in the country, and not an individual.
