RSUST, Still Committed To ICT Dev

L-R: Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu; Legal Adviser, Ministry of Communications, Mr Umar Abdullahi; Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (Ncc), Prof. Umar Danbatta and Executive Secretary, West African Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (Watra), Mr Ruffus Samuel during the signing of Mou between the Ministry of Communications and Watra in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Acting Vice
Chancellor of Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, Prof Blessing C. Didia, has said that the university is still committed to the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the institution’s academic activities.
He said this during the 28th pre-convocation press briefing Monday, in the school premises.
Didia explained that the school was still ICT compliant and would not relent in that regard.
According to him, all results must be considered and approved by Heads of Departments (HODs), Deans and the senate before sending same to the ICT department.
He noted that the results so approved were for public consumption, thus the need for ICT.
He maintained that RSUST was not departing from ICT examinations as against the non use of computers, in last semester’s examinations.
It would be recalled that RSUST could not use computers for examinations last semester as part of efforts by the Didia-led administration to sanitise the system.
The development, as The Tide learnt, saved several amount of money running into millions for the school.
The Acting VC also pointed out that the National Universities Commission (NUC), has so far approved 17 programmes for the school.
Another round of the accreditation exercise he said, would be in 2017, adding that the institution would scale all hurdles.
He further hinted that NUC would soon come for the accreditation of RSUST’s post graduate studies.
