CSR: Airtel Adopts Five Primary Schools In Nigeria
Airtel Nigeria on Mon
day said it had adopted five public primary schools in the country under its “Adopt-a-School’’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel, Mr Segun Ogunsanya, and made available to newsmen in Lagos.
The schools are Iyeru-Okin Primary School I, Offa, Kwara; Oremeji Primary School II, Ajegunle, Lagos; and St. John’s Primary School, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun.
Others are Community Primary School, Amumara, Imo; and Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba, Cross River.
Ogunsanya said specifically that Airtel renovated the blocks of classrooms at Iyeru-Okin Primary School 1, Offa, donated toilet facilities as well as a borehole.
He said this was in addition to donation of 400 school bags, 1,400 note books, 400 uniforms and packs of pen among other items.
Ogunsanya said the company recognises the interest of the state government in uplifting the standard of education in Kwara and was pleased to partner with the government and people of the state.
He said education remains the bedrock of development, adding that the best place to start was at the formative stage of children.
Ogunsanya noted that the Federal Government had taken various initiatives in this direction but had often not reached out to the poorest section of the society.
“Airtel is committed to enriching the lives of key stakeholders in the communities it operates and it will continue to create opportunities to uplift underprivileged kids through its various CSR programmes.
“In recognition of the role education plays in the development of a country, Airtel Nigeria has decided, as part of our CSR vision, to adopt Iyeru-Okin Primary School.
“Under our Adopt-a-School programme, we adopt government-owned schools located in poor, rural/semi urban communities and either rehabilitate or rebuild them, as the case may be,’’ Ogunsanya said.
