‘Use Social Media To Boost News Dissemination’
A communication special
ist, Mr Yinka Olaito, has advised media organisations to encourage the use of social media, to boost news dissemination.
He gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
Olaito, the Chief Executive Officer of the Michael Sage Consulting, Lagos, however, emphasised the need to regulate the use of social media, to avoid pitfalls.
The specialist said that digital media could be used to gather information, break news and check facts, towards disseminating quality news, at all times.
“Media organisations must also formulate social media policies to regulate how their journalists access and use them in their reportage.
“They must have regulation, which should be used as a tool to assist the profession, by promoting, creating and evaluating the individuals on the job.
“It will, however, be out of place to bar journalists from having social media platforms,’’ he said.
Olaito encouraged the use of platforms such as google, google plus, facebook, twitter, skype, flicker and linkedIn, for positive interactions and news data collection.
He also advised that every social media in an organisation should be secured, to protect data and information.
