TIMARIV Explains Trailer Movements At Day Time
The Zonal Controller,
Zone One of the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV), Mr Amachree MacJaja John says they have not been able to enforce or implement the law on the movement of trucks and trailers from 6 am to 6pm daily in the state due to certain consideration.
MacJaja made this known while fielding questions from journalists during a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt, recently.
He said in 2011, the Authority tried to enforce the law but some interest groups like the Manufacturer Association of Nigeria (MAN) and some oil companies pleaded with them that most of their equipment and chemicals could only be moved in the day and were given exemptions.
The zonal controller said the consideration would soon be reviewed as most trailer and truck drivers are causing nuisance on the road, and that the Authority would meet with the companies that owned the heavy duty vehicles to review the law and to register properly with the outfit so that once there is a breakdown, TIMARIV could be called upon on its toll freelines to remove such vehicles for free flow of traffic.
On the paid parking lots, he reiterated that it is not to generate fund as such but to regulate parking system on the major roads and streets.
MacJaja hinted that areas like NDDC, Aba Road, Stadium Road, NTA, among others, they were able to control and regulate traffic by ensuring free flow traffic and safety of vehicles, and promised to extend such measures to other major roads and streets in Port Harcourt and its environs.
