NCC Plans Fresh Spectrum Auctioning
The Chairman,
Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Mr. Peter Igho, has revealed that the commission is almost ready to carry out another round of spectrum auctioning.
The NCC’s chairman made this known in a monitored news over the week in Port Harcourt.
Igbo called on the industry’s stakeholders to play according to the rule so that it could successfully conduct another transparent auction just as it did in February this year.
He pointed out that the programme may likely kick-start before the end of this year, adding that infrastructure companies (Infracos) would get licensed on regional basis for broadband services.
Already, he said it has commenced the processes for the selection of the Infracos for Lagos and North central region in agreement with the Open Access Model (OAM).
The February exercise as The Tide was told placed Bitflux Communications top among other contestants.
He hinted that the commission sought impetus from its stakeholders in the areas of spectrum caps licensing options and others.
He also explained that rollout obligations and some other issues have been put up for consideration by the committee.
Also speaking, the agency’s director of spectrum administration and management, Mr. Austin Nwaulune, noted that discussions from the gathering would form the point of support for the spectrum auction proper.
There are strong indications that stakeholders in the industry are in a sharp disagreement with the commission (NCC) over the 2.6Gh3 spectrum slated for auction.
