Mobile Phone Use Cannot Cause Cancer – Minister

nication Technology (CT) Dr Omobola Johnson, has described as untrue the rumour in some quarters that the use of mobile phones is possible of causing cancer.
She pointed out that there are no known health dangers associated with the use of mobile phones or its nearness to telecommunication installations
Omobola who barred her mind on the issue in a chat with reporters in Abuja, which was recorded in Port Harcourt, said for now, the use of mobile phones post no risk to human health.
The minister, who spoke through her Special Assistant on Media, Efem Nkanya, noted that such speculation was a personal view of some parts which lack scientific proof.
The Tide gathered that the rumour was generated after one Mrs Ngozi Ogunjiofor, a deputy director, Department of posts and Telecoms, Federal Ministry of Communication & Technology who represented the minister in a public function said in her personal view that the use of mobile phones could cause cancer.
“The most dangerous elements in the communication sectors are mobile phones, because of the health and other related risks they bring. Some radioactive elements in the mobile phones might affect the body and cause cancer and other health challenges”, she said.
The Minister told subscribers to disregard such reports, adding that the use of mobile phones is safe.
In a related development, the Dean, Faculty of Science at the University of Ibadan, Prof Idoutu Farai, said the radiations from mobile phones are not dangerous to human health.
He described such rumours as false saying that the non-ionishing icons in phones cannot disrupt the atoms in human being.
Fara, who is a expert in radiation and health physics, noted that the non-ionishing radiations which included those emitted at the broadcasting stations and radio signals are not harmful to human beings.
He maintained that they lack the capacity to destroy calls due to the procession of what he called minimum energy”.
He was of the view that if the GSM could be linked as are of the possible causes of cancer, that the remote control used at homes could also be feared as one of the cases of cancer, saying that the GSM and remote control perform also most same function.
