Community Leader Blames Poor Network On Absence Of Mast
Host communities of the
Port Harcourt International Airport have blamed the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for the poor network services experienced in their areas.
The Tide was informed that the communities were not permitted by FAAN to erect communication mast due to flight movement.
Speaking with newsmen in one of the communities recently, Eze Samuel Wali, said non-availability of telecom mast in Ipo, one of the airport communities was also affecting network reception in his area (Omuanwa).
According to the Monarch, efforts should be made towards revisiting such issues as to enable them enjoy the communication system in the country.
Wali argued that if the concerned authorities could revisit the issue, they could come up with a better option that would improve network.
He pointed out that his community is made up of eight villages and that network providers could rake in more for themselves if the communities are given the required attention.
The traditional ruler said that his domain was yet to attain full capacity as an autonomous community as pronounced by the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi sometime ago, adding that the need for network providers to marshal out points on how to do more on social responsibilities.
He said that companies like Glo or any other service provider could invest in areas like mass computer training for rural areas, which would improve government’s presence in the area.
He observed that telecommunication had become a leading world technology and should not be denied by any area, no matter how remote.
Meanwhile, he lauded the governor over the ICT initiatives for civil servants in the state.
