FG Explores Use Of ICT For Energy Efficiency
The Federal Government
says it is exploring the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in ensuring energy efficiency and effective service delivery.
This is contained in a statement by the Deputy Director (Press), Ministry of Power, Mr Timothy Oyedeji in Abuja on Tuesday.
The statement quoted the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Amb. Godknows Igali, as saying this at a workshop for staff and stakeholders on software solutions in Abuja last Tuesday.
The theme of the workshop was: “Training Workshop on the Design of Efficient Software Solutions for the Power Sector”.
The workshop was targeted at providing a national electricity supply industry that is energy efficient, driven by an effective billing system and reliable data base.
Igali, who was represented by the Director, Human Resources, Mrs Grace Papka said the workshop was geared toward training stakeholders in the power sector for optimum performance.
Igali challenged the participants to see themselves as agents of change in repositioning the power sector.
He stressed the need for Nigeria to embrace ICT and software development if it was to attain efficiency and international best practices.
“In this age and time, the development of ICT tools, including software solutions are essentially sacrosanct to the sector’s competitiveness and international best practices,’’ he said
He said that the workshop was put together in collaboration with a team of experts from Poland.
He said the aim was to build a local competence required in the nation’s quest for technology transfer that would galvanize access to uninterrupted power supply.
The Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Prezemyslaw Niesiotowski was also quoted as saying that Poland had been able to open up its economy through the use of technology.
Niesiotowski expressed hope that the Polish experience would assist Nigeria in its development aspiration.
Niesiotowski was represented by the First Secretary, Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Abuja, Marek Klek.
