‘Insecurity: e-Policing, The Only Option’
As the security
challenges in the country continue to increase, the Niger Delta Coalition Against Violence (NDCAV), has called on the Federal Government to establish e-policing system in order to effectively fight crime in the country.
The president of the group, Comrade Christian Lekia made the call while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, Wednesday.
He was of the view that e-policing and digital security system would go a long way in curbing crime rate which has so far defied the conventional options being deployed.
Lekia said that if the Federal Government and its agencies could heed its advice, the current security issues in the country would be a thing of the past.
He pointed out that most Western countries have gone digital, adding that manual crime battling has become moribund.
The NDCAV leader, regretted what he described as addressing modern issues with old fashioned system, saying that it is about time the Nigerian nation rose up to he occasion and accept digital operation in all its military and para-military outfits.
He also pointed out that the country has enough fund to run the system, wondering what those in authority are thinking about the persistence security challenges in the country.
The Ogoni activist did not explain in details on how the digital security system would provide the needed solution to the security challenges, but cited the electronic checkpoints built by the Rivers State Government, saying that it has tremendously improved policing in the state.
Meanwhile, he has lauded Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi over his determination to increase the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the state, especially the recently launched Badliko digital system.
