ZTE Nigeria Ltd, a pro
ducer of telecommunication equipment, has donated a modern Information and Communications Technology (ICT) laboratory to Police Children School, Ikeja.
Speaking at the inauguration of the laboratory, the Managing Director of ZTE, Mr Hao Fuqiang, said that the project was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Fuqiang said that the company initiated the ‘ZTE ICT Lab Project’ for primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.
He said that with the project, ZTE planned to provide ICT laboratories for selected primary and secondary schools.
According to him, ZTE believed in the common saying that the children of today are tomorrow’s future.
“To be able to compete in the ever dynamic technology world, Nigerian children need exposure to latest computing technologies.
“Today, the world is moving from ordinary computing to cloud computing; our children need exposure like other children in the developed parts of the world.
“We will, therefore, be active participants in building and nurturing young talents that will become future software and computing gurus,’’ he said.
The ZTE MD said that the company selected the school because it was a strategic institution in promoting the peace, law and order necessary for national development and business growth.
He said that the laboratory was equipped with 20 modern desktop computers with UPS accessories and complemented with a 5KVA generator for power backup.
The Tide source reports that the computers are connected to the Internet, with subscription already paid for the next 18 months.
The Director of Education, Nigeria Police Force, DCP Ibrahim Kabiru, said that the police believed that education was the best legacy that could be given to the Nigerian child.
Kabiru said that the laboratory would be used judiciously, not only by the pupils, but also by the teachers.
The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Gladys Akeremale, expressed gratitude to the company for keeping to its promise by establishing the laboratory.
Akeremale said that it would assist the pupils and teachers to be ICT compliant.
