MTN Foundation Donates Furniture, Teaching Aids To Schools
The MTN Foundation
has donated N10 million worth of furniture and instruction materials to two secondary schools in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Receiving the items, the state Commissioner for Education, Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye, said that the support of corporate organisations and wealthy individuals was necessary to complement government’s efforts in the sector.
“Government cannot do it alone, hence, it needs the assistance of corporate organisations as well as wealthy individuals,” Oladunjoye said.
The commissioner thanked the foundation for the gesture and implored the students and teachers to make judicious use of the items.
She also lauded the efforts of Mr Babajimi Benson, an indigene of Ikorodu, who facilitated the donation.
Earlier, the Education Portfolio Manager of MTN Foundation, Mr Victor Orie-Ononogbu, pledged the willingness of the foundation to do more.
Orie-Ononogbu said that the gesture was part of many projects being executed in support of the state government toward the development of education.
The items donated to the schools include furniture for students and teachers, exercise books, mathematical sets and raincoats.
The beneficiaries are Oriwu Model Junior/Senior College and Oreyo Junior/Senior Grammar School, both in Ikorodu.
