Ogun Moves To Boost ICT Learning In Public Schools
The Ogun State Gov
ernment has said it has concluded plans to provide state-of-the-art computers and accessories in its public secondary schools, to enhance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) learning.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Segun Odubela, made this known in Abeokuta when he hosted the board and members of the state chapter of the Computer Teachers Association of Nigeria (CTAN).
According to him, the step will make the students ICT-compliant and allow them to become active participants in the “global village that the world is fast becoming”.
“As you are aware, the trend all over now is computer and the world itself is turning into a global village. We cannot afford to be behind in this trend,” Odubela said.
He assured that his ministry would involve members of CTAN in relevant activities, particularly, in putting together a Computer Science examination for the unified examinations for secondary school students in the state.
Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of CTAN in Ogun, Mr Olusola Otesile, urged the state government to look into the lopsided posting of computer teachers in its public secondary schools.
He also appealed to government to consider “giving monthly stipends to them as a motivation for recording better performance by students taking the subjects”.
