Reps Adopt Reports On Uyo Varsity
The House of Representatives on Thursday adopted the Conference Committee report on a bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Uyo and made comprehensive provision for its administration.
The adoption followed a motion by Rep. Jerry Alagboso (PDP-Imo), which was unanimously adopted without debate when put to vote by the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal.
The motion is entitled: “Presentation and Adoption of the Conference Committee report of the Federal University of Uyo (Establishment) Bill’’.
Alagboso said the Federal University of Uyo (Establishment) Bill was passed by the House on May 24, 2012 and transmitted to the Senate for concurrence.
He said that the Senate passed same bill with some differences.
The lawmaker explained that the two chambers met on March 21, 2013 and adopted a harmonised version of the bill.
“A clean copy of the conference’s report is ready for presentation and adoption; due to the importance of the bill to the development of the educational sector in Nigeria,’’ he said.
In a related development, the Federal Polytechnics Act (Amendment) Bill, 2013 was presented for the first time on the floor of the House.
