Mile One Market Traders Okays Chairman’s Intervention
Traders at the Rumuwoji Market (popularly known as Mile One Market) in Port Harcourt have pledged their unflinching support to the newly constituted 7-man caretaker committee, to conduct a fresh election for the market traders association which had been enmeshed in crisis.
The traders assured of their support during an inaugural meeting with the committee headed by Hon Lucky Wobo as secretary.
The traders who had earlier passed a vote of no confidence on the embattled executive of the association, said the intervention of the Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon Chimbiko Akarolo, was a liberation for the association which had been in bondage of leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the Rumuwoji Market Traders Association, a trader, Elder Obed Obi, said the constitution of the caretaker committee by the Port Harcourt City Council Authorities, has brought a sense of hope for lasting peace in the association.
He assured that the Association will give their maximum cooperation to the committee to deliver on their mandate.
Addressing the market traders, the committee chairman, Comrade Precious Nwiganale, assured that the committee will conduct a peaceful election to usher in a new exco that will unite all aggrieved members of the association.
The chairman also thanked the traders for their unprecedented turn up for the meeting, and pointed out that issues of sanitation and security will be given due attention.
He commended the mayor for giving the committee the opportunity to serve.
Also speaking, the secretary of the committee and councilor, representing Ward II, in Phalga Legislative Assembly, Hon Lucky Wobo, called on the market traders to be law abiding and carry out their business activities smoothly. The secretary also assured the readiness of the committee to deliver on its mandate.
