IYC Seeks NDDC’s Partnership On ICT
The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Kalabari wing, has called on the Niger delta development Commission (NDDC) to partner with it in the development of information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Kalabari Kingdom.
The leader of the youth group, Comrade Sobarasua Odum, said the demand became necessary following the existence of a world class ICT centre in the area.
Odum who was represented by the IYC, Kalabari wing Mobilisation Officer, Comrade Nemisere Banibo, said the presence of a working ICT centre will help to redirect the minds of the youths from crime related activities.
He stressed that the Kalabaris want to be part of the jet age in all ramifications including the ICT.
The Ijaw youth leader, said they have cool headed students who are willing to embrace the ICT innovation should there be green light in that direction.
He explained that the computer institution in the area can also provide employment to both youth and women from kalabari and other areas.
They also demanded that NDDC should provide scholarship opportunities for students in the region in order to enable them compete with their peers around the globe.
We were further told that the ICT demand by the IYC was part of its requests when the group led a protest to the commission’s office in Port Harcourt.
