A’ Ibom To Build Daycare Centre For Civil Servants
The Akwa Ibom State Head of Service, Mrs Cecilia Udoessien, has said that government had approved the establishment of professionally run daycare facility for civil servants at the Uyo secretariat.
She told newsmen in Uyo that the measure would reduce the rate of truancy, especially among nursing mothers in the civil service.
Udoessien said the crèche would alleviate the challenges faced by nursing mothers who might not have the needed support to care for their infants.
She said the daycare would assist the mothers so that input and performance were not marred by undue interference and distraction arising from attempt to meet with dual responsibilities of caring for children and coping with work.
“We have issued out circulars enjoining the workers to ensure that excuses relating to child care are not presented as cause for non-performance at the respective offices henceforth.
“We are determined to create enabling environment for the workers to ensure enhanced service delivery.”
Some of the workers who pleaded anonymity, described the measure as “very thoughtful and exemplary”.
They said that with such outfit in the secretariat, nursing mothers would pay full attention to their jobs during office hours.
