NAPEP Shares N18m Among 720 Homes
The National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) in Kano State, on Friday commenced the disbursement of N18 million to 720 households under its Conditional Cash Transfer programme.
Its Secretary in the state, Alhaji Usman Jajeri, said at the inauguration of the disbursement exercise in Kano that each of the households would receive N25,000.
He said the beneficiaries were drawn from Bichi, Doguwa and Kano Municipal Local Government Areas where the programme was being implemented by the Federal Government.
The directorate had in January and February this year disbursed N7.2 million to poor families in 720 households in the state.
We gathered that the beneficiaries were selected by a committee comprising of a headmaster, a village head and other stakeholders to ensure that only poor families and indigent persons benefit from the grant.
Earlier, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Gambo Sallau had commended the federal government for initiating the programme.
Represented by his Personal Assistant, Alhaji Ali Kongo, the speaker called on the government to extend the programme to cover the remaining 41 local government areas of the state.
